PSAT / NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital assessment and is shorter than the previous paper/pencil test with more time allotted per question. A built-in Desmos calculator is used on the entire math section. The PSAT/NMSQT is still used as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).   It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test™ and also gives students a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.

PSAT/NMSQT Components

The PSAT/NMSQT is aligned with the SAT and gives students a chance to check their progress. Students have developed the necessary skills over many years, both in and out of school, for success on this test; the PSAT/NMSQT does not require recall of specific facts from classes. Taking challenging coursework is the best way to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT.
