Dual Enrollment Eligibility

Student eligibility to participate in dual enrollment is a local decision which includes multiple sources of information about whether or not a student is ready for a post-secondary educational experience. To determine academic readiness student eligibility should be informed by student performance on one or more of the assessments in the table below.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) supports the use of career and college ready benchmarks whenever possible for this purpose. To help determine eligibility, the table below displays generally comparable, minimum dual enrollment qualifying scores for a number of assessments

The minimum scores listed on the table below are one important indicator of a student’s readiness or the student is on track to be ready to take post-secondary courses, but should not be the sole indicator.

*There are no state approved scores related to these assessments. Subject area and qualifying scores are specific to an Institution of Higher Education (IHE). It is best to contact the IHE to see what scores they accept as a qualifying score for the desired dual enrollment course.

For subject areas assessed on a readiness test or the MME, eligible courses are limited to those subject areas for which the student has achieved a qualifying score.

This requirement does not apply to computer science or foreign language courses.

Midland Public Schools may elect to support a student’s enrollment in a subject are that the student has not yet achieved a qualifying score if it has been determined to be in the best educational interest of the student.

Midland Public Schools will not pay the examination fee for any of the tests used to determine eligibility.

Students considering dual enrollment must check with their high school counselor to determine eligibility and other requirements.
